The Paris Motor Show is less than a month away, but Mercedes-Benz can’t seem to hold back from giving the auto enthusiasts a sneak peek of its new GLE.
Last week, the Stuttgart automotive giant releases key specs and images of the new GLE. The model is slated to be unveiled during Mondial de l’Automobile from 4-14 October and hit the market early in 2019. On the outside, the sleek off-roader may not look much different from its predecessor. Yet, this Tuscaloosa-manufactured vehicle is all about performance and hi-tech innovations that make it a dream to drive.
Designed to “awaken desire,” the Mercedes-Benz GLE is about balancing emotion and intelligence. It’s meant to look great on and off the road. The body is defined by a long wheelbase, short overhangs and large, flush-fitted wheels. The front is ensured by the upright radiator grille in an octagonal SUV interpretation, the prominent, chrome-plated underguard and the bonnet with two power-domes. From the rear, the GLE looks athletic thanks to powerful shoulder muscle extending from the C-pillar to the rear lights. The rear is strikingly rounded off with the chrome-plated underguard. Apart from transpiring presence and power, the exterior design also sets a new standard for aerodynamics in the SUV segment.
Luxurious, elegant and innovative, the GLE combines everything we love about Mercedes-Benz luxury saloon with the robust, progressive features of an SUV. The dashboard’s design is a sporty, stylish cockpit unit embedded in a striking dashboard support. Two prominent grab handles on the centre console offers good ergonomics.
The larger wheelbase of the new GLE compared to its previous model creates more space for passengers in the rear. Legroom in the second seat row has increased by 69 mm to 1045 mm. In addition, customers can request for a second seat row with 6 fully electric adjustments.
As the first petrol model, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC is powered by a 6-cylinder engine systematically electrified with 48-volt technology. Its performance data is 270 kW (367 hp) and 500 Nm of torque, with a further 250 Nm of torque and 16 kW/22 hp available via EQ Boost over short periods. The model also premieres the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems giving cooperative support to the driver.
The GLE comes with the latest generation of the multimedia system MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience. This revolutionary system improvements include two large 12.3-inch/ 31.2 cm screens as standard, which are arranged side-by-side for an impressive wide-screen look. The information from the instrument cluster and media display is easily legible on the large, high-resolution screens. The optional MBUX Interior Assist also allows intuitive, natural operation of different comfort and MBUX functions by movement recognition
